So this is Christmas…
At Grasmere Gingerbread® - which adjoins 14th century St Oswald’s Church in Grasmere village - nothing evokes the joy of Christmas more than hearing traditional carols sung in churches and cathedrals up and down the land. Whilst many carols date from the Middle Ages, it wasn’t until the Victorian era of Grasmere Gingerbread® inventor Sarah Nelson that the first carol service took place and carol singers ‘wassailed’ our doorsteps.
In a straw poll of team members at Grasmere Gingerbread®, the most popular Christmas carol was God Rest You Merry Gentlemen which seeks to bring ‘love and brotherhood’ and ‘tidings of comfort and joy’ to its listeners. If we may respectfully extend the meaning of ‘tidings’ to gifts, then please peruse our exclusive range of festive treats to help you and your family and friends enjoy this special time of year.
