Hosted by co-founders Nik and Eva Speakman of ITV’s Good Morning, the evening raised over £27,000 which will enable trained counsellors to help people with a wide range of mental health issues.
The glittering event included celebrity guests and a special comedy dance performance from Britain’s Got Talent winner Steven Hall from Kendal and 911 boyband lead singer Lee Brennan from Carlisle.
“Sarah Nelson, who invented Grasmere Gingerbread® in 1854, must have endured terrible personal suffering from the loss of her three children, husband and sister, which is why this charity - which counsels people suffering from a wide range of debilitating conditions related to mental health - is close to our hearts,” explained Joanne Hunter, Co-Director of Grasmere Gingerbread®.
“It was a special evening; everyone was generous and good-hearted, and guests were eager to play their part in raising money to help people in personal distress,” said Joanne Hunter, Co-Director of Grasmere Gingerbread®.
A view echoed by Eva Speakman.
“The atmosphere, the laughter and the overwhelming kindness in the room made it an evening we'll never forget, and it is so fabulous that so many people said it was the best one yet,” she said.
“Thanks to the incredible generosity of Grasmere Gingerbread® - which I absolutely love to eat - and other donations, raffles, and an auction we raised an amazing £27,323.
“This means we can bring hope to those who need it most and make our contribution to reduce the ever-growing waiting lists for help.”
Nik and Eva Speakman were guests at the 170th anniversary service for Grasmere Gingerbread® hosted by satirist and impressionist Rory Bremner inside St Oswald’s Church in November 2024.
Grasmere Gingerbread® has also helped to create a new charity fund to help people in need in Cumbria.
