Shop Assistant Full/Part-Time

Days of work:

Full or Part Time

Hours of Work:

9.00 am to 5.45pm, 1 hour for lunch.

From the first Monday in November until the first Monday in January the shop will close at 5pm and therefore half an hour less to be worked each day. From the first Monday in January until the week preceding February Half Term (wherever that may fall) the shop will close at 4:30pm and therefore one hour less to be worked each day.

Length of Contract:

Permanent, immediate start, where possible. Seasonal posts available.

Rate of Pay:

Up to £10 an hour

(£9.00 per hour, plus £1.00p per hour bonus on hours worked, paid upon successful completion of specified time periods being end of September and end of December of each year)

Up to £10.50 an hour

(£10 per hour, plus 50p per hour bonus on hours worked, paid upon successful completion of specified time periods being end of September and end of December of each year for those with one of the following spoken languages in addition to English )

Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)
Japanese
Punjabi
Arabic
German
Spanish

Up to £11 an hour

£10.50 per hour, plus 50p per hour bonus on hours worked paid upon successful completion of specified time periods being end of September and end of December of each year for speaking fluently in 2 of the following languages in addition to English )

Japanese*
Punjabi
Arabic
German
Spanish
French
Dutch

*One of these must be mandatory with an additional language other than English to qualify for the increased wage.

A language test will take place at the interview stage.

Main Purpose of Job:

To work as part of a small team in a specialist bakery shop/attraction. Providing final presentation of products through packaging and offering first class customer service through knowledge and communication to a wide range of international customers. Very occasional work at ‘pop-up’ shops and events.

Ultimately responsible to:
The Managers

Liaison with:
All members of staff

Main tasks of the job:

  • Preparation of stock
  •  Packaging of stock and wrapping product
  •  Customer Care
  •  Advising and informing
  •  Using Electronic Point of Sale
  •  Taking Orders
  •  Preparing work areas and cleaning work areas
  •  Shop housekeeping
  • Stock control – re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Presentation of stock
  • Delivery of group talks to visiting groups (in foreign language if applicable)
  • The flexibility to work at shows as and when required

General Assistant

Days of work:

Full TimeSunday to Thursday

Hours of Work:

9 am to 5.30pm (possible flexibility of days/hours) (1-hour lunch)

Length of Contract:

Permanent after probationary period

Rate of Pay:

£10 an hour plus bonus

Main Purpose of Job:

To work as part of a small team in a specialist bakery. We are a traditional family business that has been established since 1854. You will be assisting in the production of Gingerbread and will work in the shop providing final presentation of products through packaging and offering first class customer service through knowledge and communication to a wide range of international customers.

Ultimately responsible to:
Operations Manager

Liaison with:
All members of staff

Main tasks of the job:

Bakery: Product preparation, baking, packaging, cleaning of work areas, off-loading of deliveries.

Shop: Stock prep, customer service; advising and informing, using electronic point of sale, taking orders, preparing work areas and cleaning, shop housekeeping, stock control; re- stocking and stock rotation, presentation of stock.

Suitable Candidate:

  • Reliable
  • Flexible
  • Can work as part of a small team in a limited environment
  • Presentable for working in a food production environment and customer interface
  • Can deliver first class customer service
  • Experience not necessary as full training can be given for the right candidate

Weekend Shop Assistant

Days of work:

Saturday or Sunday or both.

Hours of Work:

9.00 am to 5.45pm, 1 hour for lunch.

Business Admin Apprenticeship

Applicants for the Business Admin Apprenticeship do not have to go through Kendal College.
