Environmental, Social & Governance Policy

Why?

Our Environmental, Social & Governance Policy (ESG) shapes and guides our existing and future relationship with the natural world - locally, nationally and internationally - and challenges us to appraise, monitor and mitigate our business’s impact on the environment.

Environment

As Grasmere Gingerbread® is located in the heart of the beautiful UNESCO celebrated Lake District, it is our moral duty to respect and protect its unique landscapes, exceptional biodiversity and special cultural traditions against a global backdrop of rising carbon emissions, climate breakdown and environmental degradation.

Social

Like charity, social responsibility begins at home and Grasmere Gingerbread® strives to create a thoughtful and inclusive working environment for every member of our team, prioritising health and wellbeing, and to provide first-rate products and exceptional personable service to our customers.

Governance

To safeguard the heritage and unique culinary provenance of an iconic Cumbrian food product, Grasmere Gingerbread® is committed to transparency in its decision-making and all operations, practises and processes.

Our Values

Passion

We love what we do, we love what we produce, and we love our customers.

Trust

We trust in ourselves and believe that our customers trust us.

Integrity

We are ethical and transparent and prioritise doing the right thing over personal/pecuniary gain.

Authenticity

Reflecting our original 1854 trademark which states None Genuine Without Trademark, Grasmere Gingerbread® is real.

Excellence

We are dedicated to delivering excellence in everything that we do.

Respect

Grasmere Gingerbread® inspires employees to treat each other, customers and suppliers with respect, kindness and dignity.

Our Lakeland Community

“It is important that we support local Lakeland life, its traditions and its customs – for local people to enjoy and also for the visitors it attracts,” said Andrew Hunter co-director of Grasmere Gingerbread®.

“Tourists are the lifeblood of the Lake District and they come here to enjoy unique upland scenery and a more traditional way of life. The Grasmere Rushbearing Ceremony is a very important community event in our sponsorship calendar.”

Due to overwhelming demand, Grasmere Gingerbread® no longer accepts individual charitable requests but instead makes a substantial annual donation to the Cumbria Community Foundation prioritising the four sectors closest to our heart - homelessness, children, food and entrepreneurialism.
