A uniquely rich portrait of Britain’s best food and producers.
Phil has an on-going series of short programmes on This Morning called A Taste of Britain, in which he interviews his food heroes around the country – this book is inspired by that series.
With a chapter on every region of Britain, Britain: The Cookbook explores the very best foods that the country has to offer. Including sardines, cider and clotted cream from the West Country, Stilton and game from the Midlands, smoked salmon and whisky from Scotland and of course Gingerbread from Grasmere!
Phil introduces us to some of the people who catch our fish, grow our vegetables and farm our meat, and offers his own favourite 130 recipes using their produce – you should see what he has made with the Gingerbread!
Top food photographer Steve Lee travelled with Phil, and together they have created an extraordinary collection of recipes, stories and amazing photographs.
Signed copies £20
We are pleased to be able to offer this book for sale via our website which have been signed by Phil on his last visit to the shop in Grasmere – seen here with Joanne Wilson.

Model
Customers Win Valuable Minature Grasmere Gingerbread Shops
SIX
customers of the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop won limited edition
hand-painted models of Church Cottage - which houses the business - in a
special competition celebrating 25 years of Lilliput Lane.
For
one winner, 24-year-old Shelly Jones, of Stockport, it was a case of
childhood revisited when she travelled to Cumbria to collect her model.
“I’ve loved going to Grasmere since I was a
little girl,” she said.
“Stepping into the shop is like travelling back
in time and I can’t get enough of Grasmere Gingerbread - it is delicious
and totally unique! I always place an order with friends if they visiting
the Lake District.”
Shelley won her model by correctly answering an
online competition that Church Cottage used to be the village school.
As well as being treated to a tour of the shop she
also visited the home of Lilliput Lane - makers of the tiny cottages that
have a worldwide following.
The
models are likely to soar in value as they were not put up for sale to the
general public.
Isao
Takeda from Japan and Gill Buxton from Tasmania also won models after the
visiting the shop in the summer of 2007.
They were unable to return to collect their
cottages in person but sent in delightful letters and photographs of
themselves with their prized possessions.
Joanne
Wilson, manager of the shop, said: “We love it when people write to us
and I was so pleased that they had been able to visit us last year.”
The
other three winners were from the UK.
