Renée Zellweger
The
Oscar winning actress fell in love with Grasmere Gingerbread during the
filming of Miss Potter in the Lake District during 2006. “Phew, Grasmere
Gingerbread, that’s some good stuff,” she said. The star of Bridget
Jones’s Diary spent several weeks in Cumbria for the period biopic in
which she played children’s author and illustrator Beatrix Potter. The
39-year-old Texan-born actress first became known to worldwide audiences
starring opposite Tom Cruise (another fan of Grasmere Gingerbread) in
Jerry Maguire before going on to win her Oscar for best supporting actress
in Cold Mountain in 2004. She has been linked romantically to George
Clooney, Jim Carrey, White Stripes singer Jack White, Luke Perry of
Beverly Hills 90210 fame and was briefly married to singer Kenny Chesney
for just four months in 2005. She claimed to have fallen in love with the
Lake District during Miss Potter. “I would love to have a home here. It
is extraordinarily beautiful and immaculate,” she declared. You’re
welcome back anytime, Renée.

Tom
Cruise
On
a visit to the Lake District he visited the shop on more than one
occasion!
Hollywood
superstar Tom Cruise turned everyone’s heads when he visited the
Grasmere Gingerbread Shop whilst holidaying in the area with former wife
Nicole Kidman. Described as the world’s most powerful celebrity by
Forbes magazine in 2006, this handsome actor has starred in several
blockbusters including Top Gun, Mission Impossible and Collateral. He is a
well-known advocate of the Church of Scientology and his sofa-jumping
antics on the Opray Winfrey Show caused a media storm in the United
States. Tom bought several tins of Grasmere Gingerbread and enthused about
the atmosphere inside our Victorian shop. Come back soon, Tom!

Antony
Cotton
The
popular Coronation Street actor swapped the bar of the Rovers Return for
the counter of the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop during a weekend break in the
Lake District. Warm, modest and witty, he charmed employees and customers
alike with his friendly effervescent banter. Whilst best-known for playing
gay barman Sean Tully in the hit ITV soap opera, Anthony is an
accomplished all-round actor and entertainer having starred in the TV
drama Queer as Folk, BBC comedy series Absolutely Fabulous and the film
Love is the Devil alongside Daniel Craig and Derek Jacobi. He also won the
second series of Soapstar Superstar, donating his prize of £200,000 to
the Elton John Aids Foundation, as well as hosting his own Antony Cotton
chat show. But he is best known for his unlucky-in-love camp Corrie
character Sean - a portrayal that has won the actor seven awards since
bringing him to the small screen in 2003. If Antony ever decides to hang
up his barman’s apron and serve Betty’s hotpot for the last time, he
is more than welcome to stand behind the counter of our shop and shout:
“Grasmere Gingerbread... coming right up!”
